Bonfires, First Responders, and Other Sacred Initiations

There’s a unique alchemy that happens when you love someone who runs toward the fire. When their pager sounds off and you’re left holding down the fort, your own quiet initiations begin.

I’ve learned that sacred support doesn’t always look flashy. Sometimes it’s scrubbing a pan while whispering prayers. Sometimes it’s greeting the one you love after 24 hours of chaos with nothing but space, breath, and unconditional presence. Other times, it’s tucking a small quartz into their pocket, providing a protection stone for their gear, or sending light-soaked visualizations to their station. Imagining Golden White rivers of light wrapping their equipment, their team, their stations in fortitude and grace.

Bonfires have always been medicine for me - a place where I release, surrender, and detach. Fire consumes, yes, but it also purifies. I recently took part in a Despacho Ceremony, a sacred offering to Pachamama, to honor the cycles of life, to release what no longer serves, and to anchor into deeper presence. That fire felt like an ancient friend. Just like the everyday flames we all walk through.

Initiation doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s quiet, consistent, inconvenient. Sometimes it looks like doing the dishes with intention, or holding space for a soul too tired to speak.

Because just like bonfires and callouts—this is training too.

What are you being trained for through your daily fires?

“I remember. I reclaim. I radiate.”
